An Anti reflective lens is designed to minimize the reflections that the lens surfaces themselves create. They do not reduce ambient glare like a polarized lens would. They will improve your night driving vision as headlights will reflect less off of your A/R lenses. 
In sunglass applications we coat the back side of the lenses only to reduce eye reflection.  Design For Vision has offered Anti reflective lenses since the 60's. Today's coatings are far superior to any we offered back then, but you have to make sure you are getting a major brand such as Crizal by Essilor, Hoya, Shamir or Zeis.  They hold up much better and offer added scratch resistance. The major brands are a bit more pricy, they are worth every penny! The cheap brands will begin to breakdown and peal in a matter of months and offer less scratch resistance and may not be UV protective.  If you are purchasing a bargain coating, you are not getting a good brand. In this case, it is definitely the old story...You get what you pay for!
